Krobus: What He Likes in Stardew Valley

Krobus is the only friendly monster in Stardew Valley, a shadow person living in the Sewers who doubles as a merchant and potential roommate. Knowing what he loves, likes, and hates lets you build friendship efficiently and unlock his perks faster.

How to Access Krobus

You need the Rusty Key to enter the Sewers. Gunther gives it to you after donating 60 items to the the museum. Once unlocked, Krobus is always there, his shop runs all the time, even on festival days.

Krobus Loved Gifts (8x friendship on birthday, big boost year-round)

These are the eight items that make Krobus the happiest:

He also loves all Universal Loves: Golden Pumpkin, Magic Rock Candy, Pearl, Prismatic Shard, and Rabbit's Foot.

Best early-game loved gift

Wild Horseradish is free, just forage it in Spring. It's the easiest loved gift to give before you've made any real progress. Pumpkin is excellent in Fall once you're farming.

Best mid/late-game loved gift

Void Mayonnaise is efficient once you have a Void Chicken. You can produce it every day and give two per week. Iridium Bar becomes viable once you're deep in the mines.

Krobus Liked Gifts

Krobus likes all Universal Likes (Gold Bars, minerals, gems, etc.), most cooked food, plus these specific items:

• Gold Bar (Furnace: 5 Gold Ore + 1 Coal)
• Quartz (common find in The Mines)
• Seafoam Pudding (cook with Flounder + Midnight Carp + Squid Ink)
• Strange Bun (cook with Wheat Flour + Periwinkle + Void Mayonnaise)

Almost all cooked dishes count as Liked, except for Seafoam Pudding and Strange Bun, which are Liked, and Life Elixir, which is Disliked.

What Krobus Dislikes and Hates

Avoid these or you will lose friendship points:

Dislikes: Most mushrooms (Chanterelle, Common Mushroom, Morel, Purple Mushroom, Magma Cap), most spring forage (Daffodil, Dandelion, Leek, Salmonberry), Holly, Snow Yam, Winter Root, Ginger, Life Elixir, and most cooked dishes.

Hates: All Universal Hates apply, except Monster Musk, Seafoam Pudding, Strange Bun, and Void Mayonnaise (those are all Liked or Loved).

Note: Do not give him Holly or seasonal forage, they feel generic and he reacts poorly to most plant-based gifts.

Krobus Birthday: Winter 1

Gifts on his birthday give 8x friendship, the highest multiplier in the game. Plan ahead: have a Void Mayonnaise, Pumpkin (store one from Fall), or Void Egg ready before Winter 1. His birthday is the first day of Winter, so you will always have advance notice.

Building Friendship: Tips and Tricks

• You can gift Krobus twice per week plus once on his birthday. Unlike most villagers, he never wanders around town, so you have to go to the Sewers to give gifts, or wait until he becomes your roommate.
• There is no friendship decay with Krobus, unlike with regular villagers. You will not lose hearts if you don't talk to him for a while. This makes him low-maintenance to keep.
• At 2 hearts, he sells you the Stardrop for 20,000g, one of the few in the game and worth buying as soon as possible.
• At 3 hearts, he mails you the Dark Sign crafting recipe.

Becoming Roommates with Krobus

To invite Krobus to live with you, give him a Void Ghost Pendant while single (not married). The pendant is sold by the Desert Trader on Fridays for 200 Void Essences.

Once he moves in:

• The Sewer shop is replaced by a chest that sells the same items.
• He stays indoors all the time, except on rainy days when he stands on the porch.
• He gives you a Stardrop at 13 hearts, just like a spouse.
• He may occasionally gift you a Void Egg, Void Mayonnaise, Void Salmon, Sea Urchin (rainy days), Fried Eel, Lucky Lunch, Poppyseed Muffin, or Strange Bun.
• There is nothing about children, no chores, and no jealousy when you give gifts to marriage candidates.
• Eviction is free but done through the Mayor's Manor book. Just keep in mind that after being evicted, he goes silent and refuses gifts.

Krobus' Shop: What He Sells

His fixed stock includes some hard-to-find items worth knowing about:

• Void Egg, 5,000g (unlimited)
• Stardrop, 20,000g (one-time, buy it)
• Return Scepter, 2,000,000g (teleports you home instantly, unlimited uses)
• Monster Fireplace, Wicked Statue recipe, Crystal Floor recipe, Butterfly Powder, Wizard Catalogue

Rotating daily stock:

• Monday: Slime x50 (10g each)
• Tuesday: Omni Geode x1 (300g)
• Wednesday: Fish or Magnet x5 (200g)
• Thursday: Mixed Seeds x10 (30g)
• Friday: Iridium Sprinkler x1 (10,000g, great value)
• Saturday: Random cooked dish x5 (50-500g)
• Sunday: Bat Wing x10 (30g)

The Friday Iridium Sprinkler is one of the best deals in the game early on, buy it every week if you can.
