What Does Leah Like in Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley

Leah loves Goat Cheese, Poppyseed Muffin, Salad, Stir Fry, Truffle, Vegetable Medley and Wine. She left the city to live alone in Cindersap Forest and make a living from her sculptures, so her taste in gifts follows that life: home-cooked vegetable dishes, cheese, foraged food and wine, never ores or gems. Her birthday is Winter 23, a key date to keep in mind.

You can give her up to 2 gifts per week, plus one on her birthday for a massive 8x friendship bonus. Everything below is accurate for Stardew Valley 1.6.

Leah's Loved Gifts

These give the highest friendship boost (+80 points, or +640 on her birthday).

Gift How to Get
Goat Cheese Goat Milk in a Cheese Press (goats from Marnie's Ranch)
Poppyseed Muffin Cook: Poppy + Wheat Flour + Sugar (recipe from The Queen of Sauce, Winter 7 Year 2)
Salad Buy at the Stardrop Saloon for 220g, or cook Leek + Dandelion + Vinegar (recipe mailed by Emily at 3 hearts)
Stir Fry Cook: Cave Carrot + Common Mushroom + Kale + Oil (recipe from The Queen of Sauce, Spring 7 Year 1)
Truffle Foraged outdoors by pigs (pigs from Marnie's Ranch)
Vegetable Medley Cook: Tomato + Beet (recipe mailed by Caroline at 7 hearts)
Wine Any fruit in a Keg. She loves every variety equally, so use the cheapest fruit you have

She also loves every Universal Love: Golden Pumpkin, Magic Rock Candy, Pearl, Prismatic Shard, Rabbit's Foot and Stardrop Tea.

Tip: you can buy a loved gift on day one. Salad is stocked daily at the Stardrop Saloon for 220g. No cooking, no farming, no recipe needed. It is the single fastest way to start building hearts with Leah in Spring of Year 1, long before you can cook Stir Fry or run a Keg.

Leah's Liked Gifts

Liked gifts give +45 friendship points. Leah has an unusually wide liked list because she likes entire categories, which makes her one of the easiest villagers to keep happy with whatever is in your bag.

Gift How to Get
All Fruits Grown, foraged or from fruit trees. Every single one is a like
All Milk Cows and goats, any quality
All Eggs (except Void Egg) Coop animals. Void Egg is the one she hates
Daffodil, Dandelion, Leek, Wild Horseradish Spring forage, free all over the valley
Spring Onion Foraged in southern Cindersap Forest, right by her cottage
Common Mushroom, Chanterelle, Morel, Purple Mushroom, Magma Cap Forage, the Secret Woods, the Mines and the Volcano Dungeon
Hazelnut Fall forage
Winter Root, Snow Yam, Holly Winter forage and Artifact Spots
Ginger Dug up on Ginger Island
Driftwood Washed up on the beach, free every day

She also likes most Universal Likes, but with a large carve-out: foraged minerals, gems and a long list of baked and processed dishes drop down to dislike or hate. See the next section.

Disliked and Hated Gifts

Disliked (-20 friendship): all Universal Dislikes, except Driftwood and Spring Onion, which she likes. On top of that: every Foraged Mineral except Earth Crystal, every Gem except Diamond and Prismatic Shard, Carp Surprise, Cookie, Fried Egg, Ice Cream, Pink Cake, Rice Pudding, Seaweed, Survival Burger and Tortilla.

Hated (-40 friendship): all Universal Hates, except Seaweed which is only a dislike. On top of that: Bread, Hashbrowns, Pancakes, Pizza and Void Egg.

Do not hand her your mine loot. This is the trap that catches most players. Quartz, Amethyst, Topaz, Jade, Emerald, Ruby, Frozen Tear, Fire Quartz and the rest are all dislikes. Only Diamond and Prismatic Shard land, and only because they are Universal Loves. Leah is the exact opposite of Maru: where Maru wants ores and bars and hates the Truffles Leah loves, Leah rejects almost everything you dig out of the ground.

The second trap is baked goods. Bread, Pizza, Pancakes and Hashbrowns are all hated. If a dish looks like diner food, she does not want it.

The Best Gift for Leah

The best gift depends on where you are in your save:

  • Early game, cheapest: Salad from the Saloon at 220g. It is a loved gift available from Spring 1 with zero setup. Two per week costs 440g, which pays for itself in heart progress.
  • Early game, free: Spring forage. Daffodils, Dandelions, Leeks and Wild Horseradish are all +45 and cost nothing. Pick them up on your walk to her cottage.
  • Mid game, best value: Wine. One Keg turns any fruit into a loved gift, and Leah does not care which fruit it came from. Salmonberry Wine counts exactly as much as Ancient Fruit Wine.
  • Late game, most convenient: Truffles and Goat Cheese. Pigs produce Truffles for free every sunny day in Summer and Fall, and a Cheese Press turns Goat Milk into a loved gift on demand.

Because you only get two gifts per week plus one on her birthday, quality matters far more than quantity. Always spend your two weekly slots on loved items.

Leah's Birthday: Winter 23

Gifts given on a villager's birthday are worth 8x their normal value, which makes Winter 23 the single fastest friendship day of the year for Leah.

  • A loved gift on Winter 23 is worth +640 friendship instead of +80.
  • One bottle of Wine or a Truffle on that day moves her nearly 1.5 hearts in one go.

Winter 23 is awkward because Truffles stop appearing in Winter and there is no forage to cook with. Age a bottle of Wine in a Cask during Fall, or stockpile Goat Cheese before the season turns. One reserved bottle is worth more than a full week of normal gifting.

Where to Find Leah (Schedule Overview)

Leah works from home and goes outside to draw, so her routine follows the season closely.

Every morning from 9am: Sculpting inside her cottage in Cindersap Forest. The door is open roughly 10am to 6pm, but you need 2 hearts to get in outside of Winter, when it is open to anyone.

Spring afternoons: By the river in Cindersap Forest at noon, then drawing on the pond pier from 3pm, home by 7:30pm.

Summer afternoons: At the beach tidal pools from noon, home by 7pm.

Fall afternoons: On the east bank of the river in town, just above the Blacksmith, from noon, home by 7pm.

Winter: Painting at her easel indoors, then at the Stardrop Saloon from 4pm until 11:40pm, every day.

Fridays, Saturdays and any rainy day: Painting until 4pm, then the Stardrop Saloon until 11:40pm.

Mondays: Shopping at Pierre's from 11am, back home by 5pm.

Fastest way to find her: The Stardrop Saloon after 4pm on a Friday, a Saturday, any rainy day, or any day in Winter. She stays there for over seven hours.

Leah's Heart Events and the Right Dialogue Choices

Leah has more heart events than most candidates, and one of them carries a genuinely punishing wrong answer. Here is the cheat sheet.

  • 2 hearts: Enter her cottage. She talks about her sculpting. Choose "Why don't you have an art show in town?" or "Why don't you sell your art on the internet?". This choice decides which 8-heart event you get. Never pick "(creepy) May I have a kiss?", it costs -100 friendship and permanently locks you out of the 8-heart event.
  • 4 hearts: Enter her cottage. You overhear a phone argument with her ex, Kel. Choose "No, it had to be done" or "No, and your ex sounds like an idiot". The other three answers all cost -20.
  • 6 hearts (part I): Step outside your farmhouse between 6am and 11:30am on a non-rainy day. She leaves a sculpture at your door. No dialogue choices.
  • 6 hearts (part II): Enter Cindersap Forest outside of Winter. You help her reach some fruit. No dialogue choices.
  • 8 hearts, art show path: Only if you suggested the art show at 2 hearts. Enter Pelican Town between 3pm and 5pm after she invites you.
  • 8 hearts, website path: Only if you suggested the internet at 2 hearts. Enter her cottage to see her online shop.
  • 10 hearts: Enter Cindersap Forest between 11am and 4pm on a sunny day outside of Winter. A forest picnic, interrupted by Kel. You can punch Kel or reason with Kel, both are friendship-neutral, so pick whichever you prefer.
  • 14 hearts (post-marriage): A two-part painting event. Leave the farmhouse between 6am and 8:20am on a sunny non-Sunday outside of Winter, then enter Cindersap Forest between 11:30am and 2pm. Every answer is friendship-neutral.

Dating and Marrying Leah

  1. Reach 8 hearts with regular loved gifts and her heart events.
  2. Buy a Bouquet from Pierre's General Store (250g) and give it to her to start dating.
  3. Reach 10 hearts, then give her a Mermaid's Pendant (5,000g from the Old Mariner, who shows up on rainy days at the beach once you have upgraded your house at least once).

Once married, Leah moves to the farm, adds her own room to the farmhouse, and sets up a sculpting area outdoors behind the house. She leaves you gifts regularly: mushrooms or coffee on rainy mornings, foraged flowers or a Salad on days she stays inside, and a bottle of wine on Winter 28.

How to Raise Friendship Fast

  1. Buy Salads on day one. 220g at the Saloon for a loved gift, available from Spring 1 with no recipe and no kitchen. Nothing else gets you to 8 hearts faster in Year 1.
  2. Forage on the way to her cottage. Her house sits in Cindersap Forest, surrounded by Daffodils, Dandelions, Leeks and Spring Onions, all of which she likes. The walk itself stocks your gift.
  3. Put one Keg on cheap fruit. Wine is loved regardless of the fruit, so Salmonberries picked during the Salmonberry Season turn into free loved gifts.
  4. Bank a birthday gift early. Winter 23 has no forage and no Truffles. Set a bottle of Wine or a Goat Cheese aside in Fall and cash in +640 friendship.
  5. Use the Help Wanted board. Leah sometimes posts a request outside Pierre's shop. Fulfilling it grants 150 friendship plus 3x the item's value, far more than a standard gift.
  6. Talk to her every day. A simple conversation adds a small bump and stops your relationship from decaying. Catch her at the Saloon after 4pm on Fridays, Saturdays, rainy days and all Winter.
  7. Empty your mining bag first. Gems and minerals are dislikes for Leah. Do not walk into her cottage and hand over the Amethyst you would give Abigail.

The main things to remember about Leah:

What does Leah like the most in Stardew Valley?
Her loved gifts are all worth +80: Goat Cheese, Poppyseed Muffin, Salad, Stir Fry, Truffle, Vegetable Medley and Wine. Wine is the easiest to farm repeatedly, and Salad is the easiest to obtain early.

What is the best cheap gift for Leah?
Salad, bought from Gus at the Stardrop Saloon for 220g. It is a full loved gift (+80) with no recipe, no kitchen and no farming required, available from your first day in the valley.

When is Leah's birthday?
Winter 23. Gifts that day are worth 8x normal, so a loved gift grants +640 friendship. Plan ahead, because Truffles and forage are not available in Winter.

Does Leah care which kind of Wine you give her?
No. Every wine is a loved gift regardless of the fruit it was made from, so cheap Salmonberry Wine is worth exactly as much friendship as Ancient Fruit Wine. Save the expensive bottles for selling.

What gifts should you never give Leah?
Bread, Hashbrowns, Pancakes, Pizza and Void Egg, which she hates. Also skip gems and foraged minerals, which she dislikes across the board, with only Diamond and Prismatic Shard as exceptions.

What is the worst mistake in Leah's heart events?
Picking "(creepy) May I have a kiss?" at the 2-heart event. It costs 100 friendship and permanently blocks her 8-heart event for that save.

Can you marry Leah in Stardew Valley?
Yes. Reach 8 hearts and give her a Bouquet to start dating, then reach 10 hearts and give her a Mermaid's Pendant to propose.
