How upload and set a custom map on an Unturned server

unturned knowledgebase

Once you have created your very own Unturned server, this one will use the PEI map by default.
If you want to add a custom map on an Unturned server, you will need to use the Mod ID of the map, since a map is considered as a "mod". This mod ID is shown in the steam workshop map URL.

Set a custom map on unturned server

  1. Find the map ID in its Steam URL (i.e. the map Buak) :
    unturned map name
  2. Stop your server and navigate to your server Files page
  3. Open the Servers folder
  4. Open the Default folder
  5. Click the WorkshopDownloadConfig.json file to edit it
  6. Add the Mod ID on a new line within the brackets after File_IDs. Each Mod ID have to be separated with a new line and comma.
add unturned map id to server
  7. Don't forget to Save the file

You can now restart your server to make it download the map. But it won't start on it by default, you need to change the current server map.

Change the map on your Unturned dedicated server

  1. Come back to the Files tab
  2. Open the Servers folder
  3. Open the Default folder
  4. Open the Server folder
  5. Click the commands.dat file to edit it
  6. Add a line : map Buak and save the file
    unturned map name
  7. Save the file and restart your server !

Restart your server to make it switch to the selected map. This tutorial used the Buak Unturned map, but works for any workshop map. You just need to find the right Mod ID and set the custom map to your Unturned server.
